230811-God’s Plan and Covenant

Genesis 12:3 (NKJV) I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

God intentionally extended His grace towards mankind who were helpless to reestablish a right relationship with Him. God made a binding and unbreakable covenant with Abraham so that through it, He would be able to deal with the sin issues of mankind righteously and justly.

This is the promise that God told Abraham regarding His plan to save the entire world from their sins; it was a covenant commitment. God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man who would change His mind, He will speak and act on His word. He will fulfill what He promised, uttered and committed to do, God cannot and will not lie to us.

Galatians 3:15 (NKJV) Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it.

Just as in a marriage covenant a man promises to love, provide for, protect and journey with his wife through both good and bad times, God too, covenants with His people, committing to love, provide for, protect and journey with them, especially with those who belong to the household of faith in Jesus Christ. God will honor His word with us, He and His word are one.

Jesus came to carry out the will of the Father. He came to fulfill the Abrahamic covenant.

Galatians 3:13-14 (NKJV) Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

The scripture above is a fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenant whereby through the death of Jesus Christ, all the families of the earth, and not just the Jewish nation, would be blessed. The Gentiles (you and I) are included in the salvation plan of God and the Holy Spirit resides in everyone who accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The Jews were the chosen people but God loves each one of us regardless of nationality, race or language. The shed blood of Jesus Christ enables the Holy Spirit to dwell as a seal of salvation within every person who believes. God is able to lead and journey with all who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, this has always been His plan and desire.

Sermon Series: Resilience (Part 4)
