1120 – Overcoming Your Giants

Joshua 1:5-8 (NKJV)No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

God wants us to worship and follow Him wholeheartedly regardless of whether it is in the Old or New Testament. He is a jealous God. He doesn’t want divided attention from us. He has no issue for us to enjoy life and even be blessed with material blessings as long as it doesn’t become god to us where we begin to trust mammon more than Him. He doesn’t want us to trust in riches, led astray by it and love money more than Him.

God promised Joshua and us that all our ventures will have good success if we are walking in His calling, abiding in Him and His will for our lives. Yes, all of us have a calling regardless of whether it is a secular or full-time ministry in the church.

There were giants in the land when Joshua led the people into the Promised Land. They had to obey God to fight and overcome the giants with help of God.

We also have to deal with “giants” in our lives to be able to enjoy the abundant life. These giants can be the refusal to take on the spiritual leadership as the man of the house, not setting priorities, unresolved marital issues, always allowing the flesh to take the dominant spot, not learning how to raise your children or spending quality time with them. Nothing will come easy even if it is a promise given by God. We must take what belongs to us by force because the enemy will not want us to have it.

Joshua was called to assume the leadership from Moses. Leadership is important especially spiritual leadership. The rise and fall of every organization falls on the hand of the leader. Likewise, the leadership in the home, the church, the company, and the country play an important role. That’s the reason why we have been asked to pray for the leaders and for each other and to abide in the word of God to give us direction to be successful.

Sermon Series: Work on Your Well-Being (Part 3)
