231127 – Proverbs 4

Proverbs 4:14-15: “Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way.”

Solomon warns us repeatedly not to follow people onto the wrong path.

There’s one warning I repeat to my husband on the daily: “Don’t forget to shut the shower door.” He always showers right before bedtime and has this habit of leaving the shower door open. If I wake up during the night and walk into the bathroom, I am greeted by a solid glass door to the face. My grogginess instantly turns into confusion and anger, and I really don’t like it! So I tell him over and over again, “Shut the shower door so that I don’t get hurt!”

Solomon tells us to avoid going down the wrong path with the wrong people FIVE times in two sentences! I think he repeats himself so many times to get our attention and reinforce how important this advice really is. You give the people you surround yourself with an abundance of influence over your life.

Are you intentionally avoiding tempting situations by spending your time with people who will encourage you to do what’s right in God’s eyes?
