231010 – Know Where To Go

READ: Proverbs 3:5-6

The revolutionary invention of the GPS has completely removed the fun from road trips as we used to know them. In those dark days before iPhones, people used to have to markup maps, read road signs, and put together a detailed itinerary for any trip over 400 miles. Now, we just type our destination and start driving. While researching your trip on a GPS, you will begin to see that there are thousands of routes to take you to your destination, and none of them are a straight line. While moving forward, you will likely make a mistake and take the wrong exit. It’s okay. The machine will recalculate, and you will still make it to your destination.

Our lives are just like a massive road trip. They take time, they take effort, and they require obedience. Solomon urges us to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6). This scripture gives us the perfect starting point for any journey: Trust. You need to trust the car, your shotgun-seat DJ, and your map system. The same is true in our lives. We can trust that God will take us where we need to go. This passage doesn’t teach that God gives us a perfect roadmap. Rather, God is remarkable at redirecting. He doesn’t give us the paths; He simply makes our paths straight. Jesus helps you know where you need to go.

So what’s stopping you? Get out there and go! As you travel through life, God will get you to where you need to go. He’s just asking that you start the trip.
