“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.” — Hebrew 3:15

There are some things you just cannot do alone. From moving a refrigerator to playing a game of UNO, life is multi-player at its core. You weren’t designed to do life alone. This is especially true in your walk with Jesus.

The Hebrew church was facing an identity crisis. They didn’t have a firm grasp of their newfound calling in Christ, so the author urged them to look around. You can learn a lot about your purpose when you look at the people around you. Hebrews 3:1 teaches, “Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus.” Their calling was attached to their community.

Imagine the engine of your car. Every single part has a critical design. The piston moves up and down to create combustion. The flywheel provides the movement necessary to propel your engine forward. The spark plug lights a little ignition within the fuel chamber. The rearview mirror helps you check your hair and makeup before meeting someone for coffee. Alone, these individual parts can’t do much. Together, they collectively create motion that moves a car from New York City to San Diego. This truth is also evident in our churches. Every person has a divine design.

When we isolate, we are immobile. When we work together, we move forward.
