230306 – We Are in Good Hands When We Are in God’s Hands

We are living in very uncertain times. I am not just referring to the pandemic, the current recovery from the pandemic but also how it will look in the coming new world order. The world is so polarized today. No one can predict or foresee correctly how the world is going to evolve except God. There probably will be a lot of new adjustments coming our way. The good news is that He knows the beginning to the end since He is the Alpha and the Omega. We can rest in the fact that we are in good hands. God’s hands. Therefore, be encouraged to tap into His wisdom as soon as possible if you are not already doing so.

James 3:13-17 (NKJV) Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.  For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

James, the brother of Jesus was a strong advocate of a true relationship with God rather than an empty religious practice. He emphasized personal growth, social responsibilities and how we should treat others.

We live in a fallen, broken and deteriorating world. Besides some of our own challenges, we will witness and listen to all kinds of experiences daily. There will be a tendency for us to give advice to others and many will be quick to share their wisdom with us as well. James reminds us that those who teach others will receive a stricter judgment. Therefore, it is wise to bridle our tongues and not be quick to give advice. It is critical for us to draw on God’s wisdom as we deal with the different challenges that we are currently facing at home and at work. We should prioritize setting our homes in order before dealing with the issues at the workplaces. It is so important to keep the peace, love and joy in our lives as we deal with the different issues in life today.

This is a prayer by Reinhold Neibuhr “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” This was composed in 1932-33 and it is still applicable to us today. The key is having the wisdom to know the difference.

Sermon Series: Earthly or Heavenly Wisdom
