230221 – The Lordship of Christ in Our Lives

Luke 6:46 (NKJV) “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?”

Unwillingness to submit to the Lordship of Christ is a common problem among Christians. We are happy to receive a ticket to heaven when we acknowledge Jesus as the Savior who forgives us our sins, but some of us are unwilling for Him to tell us how to live our lives. This can cause a lot of issues and problems because ultimately, we will reap what we sow in the flesh. The flesh is the sum of appetites and desires that want to live independently from God. It is rebellion against God’s kind of lifestyle: the need to walk in His calling and will for our lives. Thinking that we can have the best of both worlds, we cling on to our own lifestyle and flirt with the world, attend church religiously but refuse to heed the prompting of the Holy Spirit and the clear teaching of the word over the pulpit, leading us to a dead end in our careers or even our family and marriage relationships.

Galatians 2:20 (NKJV) “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

We used to live our lives based on what we felt like doing, or even what was trending in the world. We believed that we were not accountable to anyone. That’s lawlessness, the old lifestyle based on the wants and desires of the “old man”. However, we became a new creation when we were born again and received God’s nature. Jesus purchased and redeemed us from sin by the shedding of His blood. He is our Lord and Savior. Therefore, we now consider ourselves dead to sin and the sinful lifestyle and choose to live for Jesus Christ. He is the new owner and master of our lives and now has the most important say in how we live. We are to submit to His Lordship and we should live out the purpose and calling He has for each one of us. Although submission to the Lordship of Christ in every aspect of our lives can be a struggle or a challenge, especially in the beginning, our life priorities will gradually change. We would begin to have eternity in perspective and be increasingly aware that life on earth is temporary, that we are merely sojourners and pilgrims here.

Sermon Series: Resilience (Part 3)
