230120 – Be Wise and Allow God to Direct Your Steps

Habakkuk 2:1-4 (NKJV) I will stand my watch And set myself on the rampart, And watch to see what He will say to me, And what I will answer when I am corrected. Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry. “Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith.

This passage talks about Habakkuk who is one of the minor prophets in the Old Testament. He is a spokesperson for God. Habakkuk took the responsibilities to seek the face of God, question God on the state of Israel, and ask God why He is tolerant of the sin of Israel. Habakkuk’s role was to ensure that the people abide by the Mosaic covenant and repent when they have strayed away from God and their covenant obligations. God responded to Habakkuk’s questioning in V2 and told him to communicate it to the people. He also told Habakkuk that everything will take time to be fulfilled thus faith is required. The circumstances will change therefore Habakkuk is not to be disturbed and discouraged by the current situation but to trust in God completely.

Maybe, we are also questioning God regarding the chaos that is happening around us. We are not living in the Old Testament neither are we playing the role of Habakkuk but each of us has a role or roles, and responsibilities entrusted to us. We need to take leadership and ownership over it including having a constant dialogue with God. God will speak to us, give us direction, and it will require faith to walk in His instructions.

Leaders are called, made, and paid to make difficult and hard decisions especially during difficult times. That’s the responsibility of a leader. Habakkuk was a humble man. He was ready to listen, be corrected and be open to make changes once he heard from God. Today, all of us are servants of God regardless of whether we are in the marketplace or full-time ministry. It is wise to be humble before God and allow Him to direct our steps even if we have some plans in mind. Pivoting might need us to learn a new skill with a new direction. If a person doesn’t pivot, humble himself to learn a new skill, intern or to do pro-bono work to raise his credibility then he will stay irrelevant and not be marketable. The whole environment is so volatile, so it is wise to seek the wisdom of God so that we have a firm footing in an ever-changing environment.

Sermon Series: Pivoting
