0106 – Overcome Evil with Good | TBS Devotions

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”  ~ Romans 12:21 NIV

Life has its load of ups and down. Sometime we have to face difficulties, other time we enjoy free grace and abundant blessing. All these seasons can be overwhelming, especially when we are not prepared.

Our ability to discern good from evil started in the garden of Eden, after the fall of man. This ability has its downfall because our human opinion is not universal. We are so different and unique. The good things that I see, might look evil to you. Your evil deeds might look good in the eye of society. That’s why as Christians, we judge by the Book of Life: the Scripture. The Bible is our guideline. The Word of God is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. It has the power to give us revelation and divine understanding. It can equip us spiritually. When we are attacked by the evil one, we will not be overcomeby it.

The Bible promises us protection from the Lord. We might get hurt, we might feel discouraged or frustrated. But hallelujah! We can overcome by doing good. That’s our weapon against evil. According to the Bible, doing good is the ultimate weapon to defeat the evil one. Good deeds, good thoughts, good behavior, good choices, good attitude, good manner ect ect… according to the Lord’s direction and for His name’s sake. The Holy Spirit has the power to show us how to overcome by doing good.

For example, my sibling or a close friend just hurt me. I am tempted to hurt him back… but I can stop and think of the what the Bible says about that situation. I can choose to obey Lord and pray for that person. I can choose to forgive and seek to restore our relationship.

Acknowledging the goodness of God toward us can also help us release the grace that we need to do good. There are some good deeds and good stuff we do that might look bizarre in the eyes of people. But our eyes need to focus on the Son of God, our solid foundation. He is good all the time. Because of Him we walk by faith and overcome evil with Good.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, my good Shepherd, thank you for guiding me. Thank you for showing me the way, the truth, and the life that I should live. Help me overcome evil by doing good. Empower me for the work and the mission that you have given me. Thank you for your love. Amen.
