0103 – Walk in the light |TBS Devotions

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

~1 John 1:7 NIV

Since the beginning of time God made a clear separation between light and darkness. Jesus also calls himself the light of the world. We see it in John 8:12 “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

In other words, being a follower of Jesus Christ enables you to walk in the light.  This light is different from the light bulb in your room.  It’s called the light of life.  It has the power to expose your sin. When it does, you should repent, confess, and ask Jesus to forgive you.  His blood is still effective today, to wash away your sin.

Remember, sin separates you from the glory of God. Don’t tolerate sin in your life. The consequences of sin are terrible.

As children of God, we are called to walk in the light.  This way of life brings us together. We can have fellowship with one another and sanctify the environment and activities we do together.  The Bible says, “as he is the light”, our testimony will shine so brightly, people who don’t know Christ will see something different.

This difference is found in the purity of our heart. Only the blood of Jesus can purify our heart.  He can’t work with sin.  That’s why he will always personally address your sinful deeds.  When you pray and seek the Lord, He is good and loving and merciful.  He will answer you and point out areas of your life were sin is present. You will have to trust and obey him.  Allow Jesus to set you free from the bondage of sin so you can be purified and walk in the light.

Prayer:

Jesus, light of the world, I come to you in prayer today to give you glory and praise.  Thank you for shining your light.  I need your help to walk in the light.  Purify my heart this day and set me free from sin.  I want to follow you and fellowship with you every day of my life.  Amen
