1223 – Be Gracious | TBS Devotions

Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

~ Proverbs 16:24 NIV

Grace is an unmerited favor. You are being gracious when you choose to do good even when the person doesn’t deserve it. God is gracious to us when he gave His one and only son Jesus to pay the ultimate sacrifice for our sin. We didn’t deserve it. But he freely gave and freely we receive.

The Bible also tell us that God gives grace to the humble but He resists the pride. When we put on humility, we are able to be gracious to the people around us, especially with our words. The love of God in us can influence our words and understanding.

That’s why it’s important to fellowship with Jesus through prayer, worship and devotion. His Word has the power to change our words and make it taste like honey. The Bible describes the gracious words of a believer as sweet. But this kind of sweetness is not like the chocolate taste in your mouth. It’s deeper than that. It tastes sweet to the soul. That’s how powerful your gracious words are to anyone who hears it.

It also has the power to heal. So, be sensitive to your surroundings. God has place you in a specific place for a specific reason. Your family need you to be gracious. Your friends need you to be gracious. God expects you to be gracious because you are His vessel. Through your words filled with grace, he can grant healing to the bones. He can change the atmosphere and bring sweetness to the soul.

Believe in God, and believe in His Word. You will not regret it. He has given us this command: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10 NIV)

Let’s read it again and obey.

I am saved by grace through faith! Today I choose to be gracious with my words because I believe in the power of your Word and I believe in your divine healing. Use me Lord.
