This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as [a]the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

Ephesians 4:17-24 (NKJV)

CG Discussion Questions:

1. Explain what is the natural man and how is the natural man ruled by Satan or influenced by walking according to the course of this world. As a three-part being, how is an unbeliever’s spirit and soul different from a believer?
(1 Corinthians 2:14; 2 Corinthians 4:3-4; Ephesians 2:1-3)

2. Knowing that the carnal man is a born-again believer already, discuss why the believer still acts in the flesh, walks like the natural man, behaves with jealousy, bitterness, hatred, sexual immorality etc. instead of becoming the new man? Unrenewed mind will cause us to be immature and carnal, discuss what you have learnt or can do to move from spiritual infancy to maturity especially in the realm of the soul?
(2 Corinthians 5:17; 1 Corinthians 3:1-3)

3. Why can one’s spiritual maturity not be determined by the spiritual gifts or Bible knowledge? What are the characteristics of a spiritual man and discuss what it means to be walking in the spirit?
(Romans 10:9-10; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Corinthians 3:1)
