Ephesians 6:13-14 (NKJV) Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
There are many different churches in the world, but one non-negotiable is that every church must be well-established on the Word of God coupled with the working of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the pulpit ministry in the church must be strong and given enough time to feed the sheep because it is effectively helping the congregation to gird their loin belt, or the belt of truth, every Sunday by feeding them the Word of God.
The loin belt is possibly the least attractive and noticeable piece of the whole armour, but it is one of the most crucial because it holds together all the different pieces. Every weapon will fall apart unless the belt is in place and tightened. The shield is attached to the belt, and it is where the sword is hung. The belt also holds the soldier’s back upright.
The belt of truth is the written Word of God! It is the only spiritual weapon that has taken the physical, natural form of the Bible and been placed in our hands. It is the most essential weaponry that we possess.
Having settled the truth in its rightful position, we are ready for battle. We are talking about truth and its essence—who God is, what God has done and what He has said. It is all wrapped up in the belt of truth. Only truth can gird your loins and enable you to stand upright. It means to be sincerely committed to truth. In other words, I am sold out to who God is, what God has done and what He has said. I have yielded to Him. It is the truth, and I am now wholly surrendered to Him.
Even though the belt of truth has been given to us, we ourselves need to put it on, especially when the Word of God is being preached, by having a heart that is receptive to the Word to produce thirty, sixty, or a hundredfold (Matthew 13:23).
When we lay down the Bible or the belt of truth for too long, we risk losing our sense of righteousness with God, our peace, and the joy of our salvation. If we toss it out of our lives entirely, we will lose the ability to believe and walk in faith. But once we have girded our loins, we are ready for battle.
Sermon Series:The Weapon of Our Spiritual Warfare (Part 2)
