READ: Psalm 5
“My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord.” Psalm 5:3
I used to wake up extremely early. It wasn’t because I am a morning person; it was actually the opposite. I used to teach classes first thing in the morning, and I needed at least two hours and 40 ounces of coffee before class to prevent me from yelling at a fourteen-year-old.
Are you a morning person? Do you wake up excited about the new day ahead of you? Do you fling your curtains open and greet with optimism the sun’s glow? The answer is probably a resounding “No!” for most of us. That’s completely okay.
The Psalmist writes, “To You I will pray. My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up” (5:3). He meets the morning with optimism. Each day is a fresh opportunity to experience new things and to experience God in new ways.
Look at how David starts his day— he looks up! Use your morning prayers to shift your perspective. You have a choice. You can either focus on all the negative stuff around you or you can focus on God. Every morning, faithfully fix your focus.
Your focus will form the day ahead of you.
You can either focus on the illness or the healer. Look up!
You can ether focus on the debt or the provider. Look up!
You can either focus on all the stress or the Prince of Peace. Look up!
Ask God to shift your mentality this morning. Your internal mentality will change your external reality.
