Words that are Humble
Have you ever had a class with a know-it-all? These are the students who think they’re always right, speak over others, and maybe even correct the teacher from time to time. Solomon was certainly qualified to be the class know-it-all after God gifted him with all the wisdom in the world. But instead of flaunting his knowledge, Solomon reveals a key difference between being smart and being wise.
Ecclesiastes 8:16-17
When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe the labor that is done on earth—people getting no sleep day or night—then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun. Despite all their efforts to search it out, no one can discover its meaning. Even if the wise claim they know, they cannot comprehend it.
When you are smart, you may think you know it all. When you are wise, you will recognize that it’s impossible to fully comprehend everything God has created in this world. Everything that you are learning and exploring was put in place by God long before you ever existed. The smartest thing you can do is humbly recognize that God is a higher power whose thoughts are greater than your thoughts. Study God’s Word to gain wisdom about this world He created, then humbly tell others about His greatness.
Prayer Prompt: God, please help me to humbly remember that your ways are greater than my ways. Help me to understand you better as I read the Bible, then to humbly share your greatness with others.
