2 Corinthians 9: 8,10 (NKJV) And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work….Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness,
We must not forget that it is God who is able to make all grace abound toward us. Grace, in this context, is an infusion of strength into our spirit man to do what God has asked us to do. Grace will be given to us in the area of giving when we recognise that it is God who has blessed us and we are stewards of His resources. Grace is an enablement. It includes the grace to be alive, the grace to cope with the pace of life, and the grace to do what we are called to do. It may also manifest as favour with men, business acumen, and the ability to make money. Through all these abilities, we will have sufficiency to give and sow into His work. Therefore, it is not about giving out of lack but out of abundance, after providing for our families.
2 Corinthians 8:7 (NKJV) But as you abound in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us—see that you abound in this grace also.
Just like the people in Corinth, we may have gained extensive Bible knowledge, matured in our faith and been diligent in our work. One thing God also desires us to excel in and abound in is the grace to give, so that we may be known for our giving and understand that He has given us the grace to give financially for His work.
Tithing establishes God as the source and provider of everything we need in life. It is vital to acknowledge the biblical truth that He is Jehovah Jireh, our Provider. Believing that God is the source of our provision makes us better stewards of His money. In fact, we should develop a lifestyle of giving beyond the tithe and weekly offerings because practising these biblical financial principles allows us to experience God’s presence in our lives, helping us transition from the world’s system to God’s system of blessings and provision.
Pride blinds us to the truth that God is the source of our provision. We take for granted the simple gift of waking up each morning, forgetting that He is the Creator and giver of life. Without breath in our lungs, we have nothing. Yet this reality is easy to overlook when we are at the height of our careers, businesses, or personal success. In those moments, we may fail to recognise the abundant grace we have received through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.
Reflection: Do you truly acknowledge God as your source and provider? How has pride led you to focus and rely on your own abilities instead of Him?
