Proverbs 3:5-7 (NKJV) Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
“Trust” is batach in Hebrew. It signifies reliance, confidence, and security. This word conveys the concept of being confident or trusting, and it involves placing reliance or belief in a person or object. It expresses a sense of well-being and security derived from having something or someone in which one can place confidence.
We are to trust in the Lord and not in our understanding. Our understanding might serve us well today, but it could become irrelevant tomorrow. We need to be open to changes as we age instead of refusing to change.
We are living in unprecedented times. Many events are happening around the globe that are affecting us, yet we have no control over them. It is wise for us to put our trust in God. Therefore, if you haven’t trusted God in the past, now is the time to begin putting our trust in Him. This is the greatest struggle for many Christians because it involves having absolute trust in God, whether in good times or bad. We tend to struggle because we want to control and plan for our lives and be the masters of our destiny. We dislike being told what to do, including God’s advice and plans for our lives.
Often, success and our plans are our ways to prove our worth and seek affirmation from others, but if this is the case, we will remain constantly insecure, face rejection, and experience a sense of worthlessness. It is exhausting to be a people-pleaser, but far easier to be a God-pleaser! We struggle with consecrating our lives and submitting our plans to God and are often reluctant to pray, “Thy will be done on earth for my life as it is in heaven!”, but if we are honest, many of our plans have messed up our lives. Therefore, it is wise to heed what God says and not lean on our understanding.
God is omniscient, possessing all knowledge. He is the pinnacle of intelligence, holding all information, including knowledge of the future. We should be prudent in using current Artificial Intelligence because it can still exhibit flaws depending on what data is input into it. However, we ought to be connected to the best AI available—Almighty Intelligence (AI).
How do we have absolute trust or faith in God? Trusting is not blind faith in God. Faith is anchored in His Word after we have diligently sought His face. It is then that we begin to trust God. We are confident that God has our best interest at heart when we trust Him and He loves us immensely. We can be assured that if He did not spare His own Son but gave Him for us all, how will He not willingly give us all things? We trust in God’s love for us and that He has a good plan and purpose for our lives.
Sermon Series: Wise Saying
