John 4:50-53 (NKJV) Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!” Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household.
In this passage, the boy’s father behaved just as any father would. He came to ask Jesus to heal his son. Jesus spoke to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” What we can learn from this father is that he believed the Word Jesus had spoken to him, without doubting or waiting until his son was healed. He simply believed and took Jesus’ Word for it. His son was healed the very same hour when Jesus said, “Your son lives.”
Likewise, we must take hold of God’s Word, even if it takes time to manifest. Faith is taking God at His Word before we see the result. God wants us to live by faith because faith pleases Him. God’s spoken Word to you is a done deal in the spiritual realm, even if it takes time to manifest in the natural realm. The spoken Word to the father, “Go your way; your son lives” was a Rhema Word to him.
Matthew 8:8-10 (NKJV) The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard it, He marvelled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!
In this second passage, Jesus marvelled at the Centurion’s faith because all he needed from Jesus was a Word. The Centurion explained that there is power in the word of those who have authority. He told Jesus that his subordinates would carry out his instructions because of his higher rank. He believed Jesus’ Word carries authority as the Son of the Living God. Therefore, all he needed from Jesus in order for his servant to be healed was a Word from Him.
How can we apply these truth in our lives?
1. Come to God for help. Don’t suffer in silence. Bring your need to Him.
2. Ask Him for a Word. Pray: “Lord, give me a Scripture for this situation.”
3. Take His Word for it. Agree with what He said, even if your feelings disagree.
4. Don’t be moved by circumstances. When the situation looks impossible, remind yourself: “God spoke, and it is done.”
Reflection: In what situation do you need to ask God for a Rhema Word right now?
