Romans 5:1 (NKJV) Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
We are redeemed, and our sins are forgiven because of the blood of Jesus. We are seen as righteous and holy because God sees us in Christ. The blood of Jesus, shed for us, has given us right standing with God—an unchanging positional truth. If God accepts us, there is nothing to fear—even death or meeting God. It will grant us peace with God.
John 14:27 (NKJV) Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
In addition to peace with God, God’s own peace, which is different from the world’s, has been given to us. This peace is divine in origin. It cannot be disrupted by life’s problems or difficulties. It is unwavering, unshakable and indestructible. It is God’s will for us to have peace in our lives. Everything that our covenant partner possesses belongs to us, including peace. Therefore, draw upon God’s peace when we are troubled and anxious, and rest in His love and faithfulness! God’s peace is present even amid a perfect storm.
Peace comes when we are aware that God is with us. It is always God’s desire to be with us. Jesus assured the disciples of His presence. This assurance applies to us because the Holy Spirit lives in us. He is our Teacher, Helper and Comforter. He is always there for us. The Holy Spirit, our Counsellor, helps us in times of need, and He brings the Scriptures to our remembrance so that we can keep the peace. This peace of God is proportional to how much we allow the circumstances to affect us. Remember, the devil wants to steal the Word from our lives so that he can steal the peace and joy from us.
The thing about anxiety and worry is that they won’t help us to overcome the problem. Instead, we should pray and cast our cares, anxieties and concerns on the Lord, and thereafter begin to praise and thank Him.
Once we know who we are in Christ, fear is driven out, and the peace of God comes to us. With this foundation, God wants us to have perfect love and perfect peace, because He sees us as He saw Christ while He was on earth. This gives us the assurance to approach Him in faith and the confidence to pray.
Reflection: In your life, what practical ways help you remain more consistently in this peace?
