1 Samuel 13:14 (NKJV) But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you.”
God had a plan to raise David to succeed King Saul. David is known as a man after God’s own heart. David was humble, unassuming, and obedient to God. He loved God, His family, and the nation of Israel. He rose to the occasion when Israel was confronted by Goliath and carried out many exploits when the enemies came against Israel.
There will be doors opened for us that no man can shut when God calls us to serve Him. There will be favour with God and with men that accompanies the calling. If God has truly called you, you need not fight for a position. Your anointing will make a way in God’s timing.
1 Samuel 16:13 (NKJV) Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
David was called, appointed, and anointed by God to become a leader. He neither asked for the leadership position nor promoted himself to it. The anointing is God’s empowerment that grants the unction to function in your role and fulfil the calling on your life. Each of us should operate within the role and calling that God has designated for us. In David’s leadership transition, he was anointed by Samuel to become the King of Israel. David was not puffed up with pride, nor did he take it upon himself to dethrone King Saul. Instead, he trusted in God’s timing and responded to God’s call on his life.
David was secure in the presence of men and God, even though he was just a shepherd boy. It stems from the fact that he knew and has experienced God, and trusted in Him. David also carried a kind of authority that came from the divine calling. He commanded the respect of his men even before he was made king. He was truly a leader called by God.
1 John 2:20 (NKJV) But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.
All of us are anointed by God to fulfil the function and roles He has given us to serve Him in church and in the marketplace. We can consult the Holy Spirit, since He is our Counsellor, Helper, Teacher, and Comforter. You and I have the grace to function in our respective roles. His wisdom will help us to succeed and balance the different roles in our lives. The grace of God in our hearts will sustain us when we face challenges. Because of our relationship with God, we will know what to do because we are connected to Him through prayer and in our devotional time.
Sermon Series: Walk into Your Calling
