John 10:27 (NKJV) My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
When God speaks to us, it is not an audible voice of the Shepherd. Therefore, we shouldn’t seek to hear audible voices. Rather, the voice of the Shepherd is an inner witness and a leading of the Holy Spirit.
The Great Shepherd is a good leader who protects His sheep from predators. He guides us to green pastures and still waters. Psalm 23 speaks of provision when the Shepherd leads us to these places. He will provide for you through your job and business; therefore, you need to include Him in this area of your life. He will also protect us from people who might cause harm or have evil intentions towards us. We need to listen to Him. He is always with us because the Holy Spirit lives within us. We can discern whether it is God leading us.
Many voices clamour for our attention. If we don’t heed the voice of Jesus, we may stray, follow our own path, and leave the sheepfold. There is no safety when we’re apart from the Shepherd, making us vulnerable to the evil one. When we listen to His voice, we will follow Him. There is safety in the presence of the Good Shepherd, who will lay down His life for us. We must learn to trust the Good Shepherd and His guidance. He will not harm you but will always have your best interests at heart!
We should read the Bible, pray, and listen to God’s still small voice. When God speaks, write down the instructions, challenges, or directions. Be determined to obey to the best of your abilities! We can do this spiritual discipline alone or with our spouse, especially on matters that pertain to the family. When we listen to God, there will be occasions when creativity flows and plans are hatched. We should make a habit of listening to God’s voice throughout the day.
We need to train ourselves to listen and to be aware of God’s presence within us. One of the most significant weaknesses in our communication is that many of us focus on being heard rather than taking time to listen to others. This often causes major breakdowns in relationships because we are not truly listening to the other person. Some young people even find it difficult to start a conversation because they are accustomed to social media communication and have a short attention span. Similarly, we should take time to listen to God rather than merely telling Him what we want in life.
God’s voice comes as an intuition in our hearts. His voice comes as spontaneous thoughts that are dropped into our hearts or spirits. It lights up our minds from our hearts as He directly impresses His thoughts and ideas upon them.
