Romans 5:1-3 (NKJV) Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;
Jesus has dealt with the sin issue that separated us from God. The blood of Jesus has justified us, giving us peace with. Since we have peace with God and God sees us as righteous, it sets us free from fear because there is nothing to fear if God is for us and not against us (Romans 8:31).
John 14:27 (NKJV) Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
The peace in the verse above is divine in origin—a kind of peace that life’s problems, disturbances, and difficulties cannot disrupt. It does not waver, cannot be shaken or destroyed. It is God’s will for us to have peace in our lives. God’s own peace, which He Himself possesses, has been given to us because everything our covenant partner possesses belongs to us, and peace is one of them. Therefore, we should draw upon His peace when we are troubled and anxious, and rest in His love and faithfulness. God has given us His peace, which is different from that of the world’s because God’s peace is present even amid a perfect storm.
Peace comes about when we are aware that God is with us. David was bolder than the Israelite army when they were facing Goliath because he, the shepherd boy, knew God and his covenant rights. He had faith that God would help him defeat Goliath because of the covenant obligations and relationship. There was no fear in David because he was filled with faith in God.
It is always God’s desire to be with us. He has committed Himself to be with us through the blood of the covenant. He is our Teacher, Helper, and Comforter, and is always there for us. The Holy Spirit, who is our Counsellor, helps us in times of need and brings Scriptures to our remembrance so we can maintain the peace that can otherwise be stolen if we choose to look, think, and worry about the problem. Nevertheless, we need to remember that this peace of God is proportional to how much we allow the circumstances to affect us, because the devil wants to steal the Word, and consequently peace and joy from us.
Once we know who we are in Christ, our fear is driven out, and the peace of God belongs to us.
