Hebrews 10:11-12, 16-18 (NKJV) And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,….. “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.
We know from the Bible that sin can only be atoned for by blood, whereby an innocent party must always take the place of the sinner through the shedding of blood. However, while the Book of Leviticus shows us that the blood of the unblemished animal was able to appease God’s wrath, it was only temporary, and it wasn’t something that He desired or gave Him pleasure. God had a better and perfect plan. He prepared a body through His only Son Jesus Christ and the shedding of His blood to take away the sins of the world once and for all.
Let us picture Jesus as that unblemished lamb which was inspected by the authorities to take away the sin of the world. In fact, Jesus was sacrificed on the day of the feast of the Passover, so the Passover was just a foreshadow of what was to come through the work of Jesus Christ, whereby we will pass over from eternal death into eternal life. It is the power of the blood that has redeemed and atoned us from our sins—He took the penalty of our sins so that we can live.
The Book of Leviticus also reveals to us that there was the High Priest who ministered on behalf of the people of Israel. Only he could enter the Holy of Holies in the tabernacle. Therefore, Jesus is also our High Priest who has gone into the heavenly tabernacle to minister on our behalf. After that, He sat down beside the Father.
The blood of Jesus has dealt with the sin issue that separated man from a holy God. Jesus, the Messiah—the promised One through the Abrahamic covenant—finished the work on the cross. He was made sinned for us, and gave us His righteousness. The beauty of the New Covenant is that there is no longer any dead works like sacrifices, rituals, and offerings by the priest. We are saved entirely by the grace of God, not by works, so that nobody can boast.
We now have a right standing in the presence of God by because the blood of Jesus has appeased God’s wrath once and for all. God is not angry with us, and we have peace with Him.
Romans 5:1 (NKJV) Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
