And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is theHoly Spirit, who leads into all truth.
The world can not receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him.
But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.
John 14:16-17
Jesus, I want to connect with You today.
Help my thoughts turn to You today, for in You I find peace and contentment.
Jesus’ death and resurrection accomplished a lot of amazing things. Jesus broke the power of death for all humanity, giving us the opportunity to reconnect with God and experience eternal life with Him one day. Jesus also broke the power of sin in our individual lives, giving each of us the freedom to live obediently, because sin no longer has power over us.
Jesus also knew we were forgetful people, so His ascension into heaven made the way for His Holy Spirit—the Advocate He mentions in today’s passage —to live in every one of His followers. The Holy Spirit teaches, reminds, and empowers us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength . . . and love our neighbors as ourselves.
REFLECT:
If you’re a follower of Jesus, how have you personally experienced the Holy Spirit in your life? What questions do you have about how the Holy Spirit works in your life today
RESPOND:
Thank God for the gift of His Spirit. Ask Him to help you learn to recognize the Spirit’s work in your life and commit to paying ridiculous attention to what the Spirit says.
