When we say that first big yes to begin following Jesus, God gives us the gift of His Holy Spirit to live within us. The Holy Spirit is God’s presence abiding in us, so we can choose to respond and abide in Him. God’s Spirit teaches us truths, reminds us of the truths we’ve learned, and points out the sin in our lives, all so we can make the changes He wants us to make.
The Spirit helps us abide in Jesus and live the life God dreams for us.
We don’t earn (or lose) God’s love by obeying (or not obeying), but as we abide in Him by saying a whole bunch of little, everyday yeses, our trust in Him deepens and our lives look more and more like God wants. And that’s the best life we can live.
