Mark 11:20-23 (NKJV) Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.” So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God”. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
In order to develop a faith that can move mountains, we must agree with God’s Word and frame our world through the affirmation of God’s Word daily.
The fig tree in the passage did not wither away immediately. It took time to manifest in the natural or to the naked eye even though it was already rotting at its root. The process of dying had already started as soon as Jesus cursed it or when the Word was released. While it may take time for the manifestation to occur, we must remain steadfast in faith.
To avoid doubting in our hearts, first, we must genuinely believe in our hearts what we say to the mountain, which means having faith in God through our inward conviction. It is from the abundance of our hearts that our mouths speak. Secondly, we must consistently reinforce our beliefs by speaking in our daily lives what we already spoke to the mountain. By starving doubt and reiterating our beliefs by saying it just as though it is, we strengthen our conviction.
One very important thing is we must understand affirming God’s Word and calling things into existence does not mean denying the reality of our circumstances. The Bible does not instruct us to ignore the facts or pretend that certain things don’t exist. Instead, we choose to believe and agree with what God’s Word says rather than continually talking about the obstacles that we face and focusing on them.
Beth Jones in her book “Get A Grip On Your Lip” said, “We can frame our world—our walk with the Lord, our emotional and mental health, our physical health and strength, our relationships, marriage, family, ministries, finances, and our success in life—by speaking God’s Word”. So, if you want to live the supernatural, victorious Christian life, you’ll have to get your mouths in agreement with God’s Word, and over time, those words will frame your world.
There is power in the written Word when we mix it with faith. Therefore, if you know that a mountain is not supposed to be in your life, such as fear, lack or sickness, you can speak to it! We are reiterating and keeping our faith when we speak God’s Word to frame our lives. It starves doubt and brings to remembrance the Word of God which is the truth.
Sermon Series: Cell Group Campaign (Session 2)
