Matthew 6:9 (NKJV) In this matter, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Whenever we say, “Hallowed be Your name”, we have entered into the worship of God because we are acknowledging His holiness and all His other attributes. Often, we tend to be forgetful and are easily overwhelmed by stress, pressure, and circumstances. Therefore, God, in His wisdom, reminds us that we have a loving Heavenly Father and that He is an all-powerful God. When we come before the Heavenly Father, we are reminded of His omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence. It brings our focus and faith back to God instead of being overwhelmed by stress. We are reminded that there is tremendous power in His name and of the names of God, such as Jehovah Jireh, our provider; Jehovah Nissi, our victory banner; Jehovah Rapha, our healer; El Shaddai, the Almighty God. There is indeed nothing too difficult for Him. He is Jehovah Shalom, the God of peace.
Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Our faith in God arises when we address Him as Heavenly Father, and we are reminded of the awesomeness of God. We need to diligently seek God through faith and prayer about the daily challenges experienced in our lives.
Of the different people who sought the help of Jesus when He was on earth, the Centurion impressed Jesus with his faith. Why did Jesus say that the Centurion had great faith? Because he acknowledged the position of Jesus as God and the power that comes with the position. If he, as a Centurion had the power and authority to command his soldiers to act on his instruction, then Jesus, being God, must have tremendous power in His spoken Word. This explains why he didn’t need Jesus to go to the home of his servant, but Jesus only had to say the word, and his servant would be healed. Likewise, the very utterance of “Hallowed be the name of God” brings our faith to be focused on God and who He is when we come before God in prayer.
When we pray in the privacy of our rooms, we have come in faith before God the Heavenly Father in expectation that He will hear our prayers and reward us. When we have uttered our prayers into the supernatural, we will witness the work of His hands in the natural.
When we pray different types of prayers, such as the prayer of faith, the prayer of agreement, the prayer of consecration, the prayer of supplication, and intercessory prayer, we need to have faith to focus on God, and cast all our cares on Him because we know He cares for us.
Sermon Series: Lord teach us how to pray (Part 1)
