READ: Matthew 5:3
Have you ever come to the realization that you’re not strong enough to do something on your own? It’s not a great feeling and certainly not one I give into quickly. Even if it’s something silly like opening an impossibly tight jar, I like to do things myself. I’ll cringe and grunt with muscle fatigue, giving it my absolute all before I ask for help. When Jesus talks about blessing the poor in spirit, He is referring to the people who acknowledge that they can’t do life alone. They’ve experienced what it feels like to try to do everything themselves, and they’ve been left exhausted, fatigued, and still yearning for more. When you are poor in spirit, you give up your stubborn ways and ask Jesus to help you in every area of your life.
What’s the first key to happiness revealed by Jesus? Humbly recognizing that you need God.
What have you been struggling with alone that you need to ask for help with today?
