Action Speaks Louder than Words
Talking about something is very different than actually doing something. I could read a book that teaches me everything I need to know about the physics of doing a backflip on a balance beam, but that doesn’t mean my uncoordinated body could actually throw a back flip on a balance beam. Solomon understood the same to be true about wisdom. It’s great to learn what is true and wise, but then it’s necessary to put that wisdom into action.
Ecclesiastes 11:3-4
If clouds are full of water, they pour rain on the earth. Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where it falls, there it will lie. Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.
Life goes fast. Don’t miss out on this moment God has provided for you because you are distracted watching things that are out of your control. As you learn what your God-given purpose is during your short time on earth, focus on working hard to glorify God with your calling. No matter what is going on around you, don’t be swayed from the one thing that gives this life true fulfillment — loving God and others. As you learn God’s will for your life, be sure you are living it out in action as much as you are speaking about it. Sometimes actions speak louder than words.
Prayer Prompt: God, help me to put my words into action so I can live for you in word and deed. Help me to stay focused on your calling for my life and glorify you with all I do.
