Words that Uplift Others
Ecclesiastes isn’t a feel-good book of the Bible. Solomon is constantly reflecting on his achievements and experiences with disappointment. He calls venture after venture meaningless, until he begins to reflect on friendship.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
After Solomon deemed most of his life meaningless, he places signifiant value on relationships. God never intended for us to go through life alone. He wants us to connect with the people around us for help. Relationships bring purpose and meaning into our lives, even when nothing else seems to be going right. Use your words to encourage others and be present in their lives. Your uplifting words could be the difference between someone feeling knocked down and someone having the strength to carry on.
Prayer Prompt: Jesus, please help me to see the value in my relationships. Help me to be a good friend that lifts my friends up when they’re down.
