32 And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: 33 who THROUGH FAITH subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
Heb 11:32-34
Q & A:
- What is the “Goliath” or huge problem/challenge in your life now, as the entire Israelite army were threatened and afraid to face the giant warrior? Discuss if you tend to focus on and be intimidated by the size of the problem rather than how great our God is on our side. (Heb 11:32-34; 1 Sam 17:26-52)
- What sets David apart from the rest of the Israelites in terms of the perspective when facing the circumstance or challenge from Goliath? Discuss how David sees the uncircumcised Philistine in comparison to God’s chosen people where circumcision symbolizes the sign of the covenant with God. (Gen 17:7-11; Luke 2:21; Rom 2:29)
- Discuss how you can speak out of faith and believe with deep conviction in your heart that God will deliver you from the situation as how David, the young shepherd boy confronted the situation/fear of the soldiers and King Saul. (2 Cor 4:13; 1 Sam 17:34-37, 46-47)
