230314 – Let Us Cross Over to the Other Side

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

All of us wants to please God. Sometimes, we tend to please God by the work that we do for Him, but it is faith in God that pleases Him. While the work that we do for Him is important but what pleases Him is the faith in Him while we carry out the work that He has crafted out for us. Faith helps us to be CONSTANTLY DEPENDENT ON GOD. Faith believes in God almighty. He is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent. Fear is believing that the circumstances is overwhelming while faith is believing that God is almighty. We can only focus on the problem or on God. If we focus on the problem, then we will be in fear but if we are to focus on God then we will be in faith. Faith believes that God will honor His word with us. We will “cross over to the other side”. We act in faith after we have heard from God. It is acting out in faith to do something that’s contrary to what we are seeing in the natural.

Romans 10:17 (NKJV) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Mark 4:20 (NKJV) But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

If we are those where the seed has fallen on stony ground, then the joy and faith in God will not stand when we are faced with a tribulation.

In the case of the disciples it was “let us cross over to the other side”. It means they should have faith that they will cross over to the other side despite of the storm! The storm is temporary, and it will pass or stop. The disciples, thought the likelihood of perishing was higher than crossing over to the other side of the lake! Why, because water was coming into the boat, it was a huge storm, and there were strong winds. Jesus expected them to anchor their faith in His instruction rather than allow fear to immobilize them.

It is a lesson that Jesus wants all of us to learn about faith and how to deal with fear. Faith creates a path for us to stay focused on God while we walk through the valley of the shadow of death because Jesus is with us. Faith is not foolishness nor presumptuous, but it is grounded in the promises of God. We will exercise the vested authority to pray from a position of victory against the work of the devil. It is putting into action what we perceived to have heard from the Lord.

Sermon Series: Teacher, Do You Not Care that We Are Perishing?
