230313 – Be the Right Soil

Mark 4:13-14, 20 (NKJV) And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? The sower sows the word….But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

As believers, we hold the key as to how much the Word of God is going to influence our lives, because the readiness to receive and accept the Word is a choice only we can make. One of the reasons why the Word is usually ministered after worship in church service is that as we are reminded of the greatness and awesomeness of God through worship, our hearts become more mouldable and open to the ministering to the Word after we have surrendered ourselves to Him.

In this parable, the seed represents the Word, and the soil reflects the condition of the hearts of men. Fruitlessness in a believer’s life is due to two possible reasons: either no seeds were sown or unfavourable soil conditions. In contrast, seeds sown in good soil condition will lead to good harvest, and in turn more seeds to be sown. No farmer will expect a harvest unless they have taken time to plough and sow seeds into the ground. Similarly, while the pastor needs to be faithful in sowing the seed of the Word of God, the members themselves must also take time to study the Word for a harvest to be produced in their lives.

The specific type of seed planted will determine the type of fruit that will be harvested, so we also get to decide how we are to build our faith in the Word of God by studying and listening to the various topics taught in church. For instance, if the seed on wisdom is planted, we will witness God’s wisdom operating in our midst. If the seed on biblical financial principles is planted, we will live out financial freedom and blessings God’s way. If the seed on covenant marriage is planted, we will witness strong marriages. If the seed on the ability to walk in the law of the Spirit of life in Christ is planted, we will witness victories over temptations. If the seed on the grace of God which sustains us during tribulation is planted, we will witness joy in the midst of hardships. If the seed of the word on faith, healing, and miracles is planted, we will witness healing and miracles.

Because the seed of the Word of God has power, we all have potential to reap a big harvest. However, we determine how big the harvest is in our lives because it is up to us how receptive we are towards the unadulterated Word of God in our lives. Therefore, if you want to see harvest, be the right soil by being willing and receptive to the teaching of the Word of God.
