Romans 8:34 (NKJV) Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
In the Old Testament, God was looking for a man to stand in the gap so that He could show mercy to the people or the city. In the New Testament, we have Christ interceding for us. What a great honour, privilege and blessing! Jesus is our mediator and advocate. Nobody can condemn us if God has justified us because we can plead the blood of Jesus. It is none of the devil’s business but between you and God. Therefore, always run back to the Heavenly Father no matter how much you have stumbled in your Christian walk!
We need to be encouraged that God is with us whether we are the person who is going through challenges or the intercessor. God is saying to you that He has you covered in the midst of being caught between the rock and the hard place. He is looking, nudging and moving people to rise up to intercede for you, and He is asking us to stand in the gap for others so that He can act on their behalf. God is for us because we have a common enemy—the devil. Our prayers and intercession can cause God to move mightily.
Know that we can intercede from a position of faith and confidence because Jesus has all the authority over the devil after His resurrection. Jesus is seated far above all principalities, dominion and might. The church of the living God is the body of Christ and Jesus is the head of the church. Therefore, if the devil is under Jesus’ feet, the church has the vested authority to ask the demonic forces that’s creating the spiritual warfare or an attack against the church, family or individual to back off! We are to take authority over the situation and enforce the victory of Jesus Christ!
We should use Scriptures to stand on God’s promises and trust that God will act as we begin to stand in the gap for any situation. It will be a process, but we should press in with constant prayers and intercession for the person, family, church, church leaders, pastors, city and country, while resting in God by having faith that He is working in the spiritual realm. It takes faith and patience to inherit the promises of God, and resting in Him will ensure that we are not relying on our own strength and be worn out.
Sermon Series: Partnering in Prayer with God through Intercession
