Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV) For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Good works are not the path to salvation; rather, they are the response to the grace we receive through Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:10 reveals to us that we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to walk in. These works are a natural outflow of our faith in Him and reflect His love, grace, and mercy to the world.
God desires to demonstrate His compassion and kindness through His body—the believers. He blesses us not so we can hoard those blessings but to equip us to bless others. As stewards of His resources, we are called to be a channel of His love, helping the lost and those within the faith community.
Living a life of good works requires us to reflect God’s character in everything we do. Whether in our workplaces, our homes, or our communities, our actions should glorify Him. These acts of service not only fulfil our calling as believers but also serve as a testimony of God’s goodness and faithfulness to those around us.
Psalm 139:14 (NKJV) I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
God has uniquely designed each of us with talents, gifts, and abilities for specific purposes. The above Scripture reminds us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Each believer has a role to play in God’s plan, and when we walk in our calling, we bring glory to Him. By embracing our unique design, we can contribute to His kingdom in ways no one else can.
Faith and good works go hand in hand. As James teaches, faith without works is dead. When we act on our faith through good works, we bring hope and healing to those in need. This could mean giving to the poor, supporting missions, or helping someone in crisis. Good works involve meeting practical needs, such as providing financial aid, sharing resources, or offering time and expertise to those in need.
God’s blessings are not just for us—they are meant to flow through us to others. As we grow in faith and obedience, we become vessels of His provision.
2 Timothy 3:17 (NKJV)that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
God equips believers for every good work. Through these acts, we reflect God’s heart and fulfil our purpose as His children. Good works, empowered by faith, are a reflection of God’s grace in action. By living out this calling, we demonstrate His love and impact the lives of others for His glory.
Sermon Series: Growing our Faith in God (Part 3)
