The wonderful promise from these verses is that there is a throne of grace that we can approach to “obtain mercy and find grace in time of need.” When the Apostle Paul was going through a difficult time, the Lord promised him in 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV) “…My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in your weaknesses.”
Grace does not alter the situation, but it alters the recipient by giving us the strength. It is the full manifestation of power and strength of Christ in an area of personal weakness. God supplies us this power by the indwelling Holy Spirit, that works in and then out of our lives so that we are able to bear the trouble as we look to God by faith for a breakthrough in the situation.
God’s plan is for us to habitually come before the throne of grace to commune and draw strength from Him. He longs for us to run to His throne room to fellowship with Him and pour out our frustrations, fears, concerns and challenges in life to Him. This throne of grace is where our loving and gracious Heavenly Father is waiting daily for us. It is in His presence that we turn our focus from the problem to God who is the answer to our problem.
We do not have a God who sits high up in the heavens with all His glory, power and splendor and does not understand the struggles of men. On the contrary, Jesus Christ is able to empathize with us in all circumstances because He was in all points tempted as we are yet he did not sin. Jesus understands the feeling of being in an adverse situation where it feels as though God has forsaken or forgotten us. Satan directly tempted Jesus and shot all his fiery darts at Him. Jesus is saying, “I am with you and for you, and I fully understand what you are going through.”
The Bible says that without faith, it is impossible to please God and whoever comes to Him must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who earnestly seek Him. He wants to journey with us and answer our prayers during our difficult times. Faith hooks us up with Him.
Therefore, let us come into His presence and behold Him. He is full of love, compassion and mercy. His words comfort and encourage us and He knows exactly what we need for any moment to stabilize our soul because His Word is the anchor of our soul.
Sermon Series: Coming to the Throne of Grace
