1209 – Fear No Evil | TBS Devotions

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

~ Psalms 23:4 NIV

Jesus is our Emmanuel, it means God with us.  He is also our Good Shepherd.  He can lead us to green pasture and feed us.  As Christians we must identify ourselves as His sheep.  We shouldn’t try to walk alone, away from the Shepherd or away from the flock because it will make us venerable.  The wolf is always at the corner, waiting for us to be distracted or to rebel.

Laying down on green pasture could be a picture of our good days, when all is well and we enjoy a smooth and quiet walk with the Lord.  Days where everything just seems to be the way they are.  But the Bible also describes a season of life where we walk through the darkest valley.

At that time, it is normal for us to back fearful.  But David remind us that we should fear no evil.  Because our Shepherd is not going to abandon us.  Our Emmanuel, God with us, will still be present.  With his rod and his staff.

Those difficult situations can be the consequences of our wrong decision making.  Not consulting God can lead us to painful trials.  But if we repent, He is faithful and true to forgive us.  Other valleys are just part of the journey.

In his great Providence, God can allow us to go through it.  Our job is to focus our eyes on Jesus, our Good Shepherd.  Not on the evil.  Jesus can use his rod to discipline us or his staff to lead on the proper path to victory.  He has already overcome the World, so we better follow Him: be attentive to His Voice, receive clarity from His light, being fed and strengthen by His mighty hand and receive comfort that comes from Him.

Prayers:

Jesus, thank you for giving me life in abundance.  Thank you for giving me the ability to hear your voice.  Show me the way, show me the truth and show me the life that you have for me.  I want to abide in you and Your Word to abide in me.  I know I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I am looking forward to seeing you doing great things in my life oh God. You are my living hope.
