0129-S(word)play

Wordplay is the clever and witty use of words and meaning, involving the use of literary devices and techniques.Add an ‘s’ and it becomes a very different word with a very different meaning. Swordplay is the activity or skill of fencing with swords or foils.

Genesis 1:3 (NKJV) Then God said,”Let there be light”; and there was light.

Hebrews 1:3a (NKJV) Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power,

John 1:1 (NKJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

God’s Word and His person are one. Very often, He spoke, and there was. He spoke, and it was so. His speech and His acts are often one and the same. There is tremendous power in His Word. The tempter even used it to try his luck with Jesus; three times! And Jesus foiled all his attempts using the same weaponry ̶ the Word of God!

Ephesians 6:16-17 (NKJV) above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

Taking from Jesus’ cue, we can and should use against the evil one this weapon that was provided for us. We put on the complete armour and must take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

Another aspect is praying the Word of God to God. His promises are true, and He is always faithful to fulfil them. That means if God has really spoken and given us His word, we can be sure that it is a done deal. There are times when they come to pass immediately but many times, these things take time. It may seem like the fulfilment tarries, but God is always on time. We simply trust and obey. Meanwhile, we continue to seek Him through His Word, and sometimes also godly counsel from people He has surrounded us with, for His next instructions might very well come through the searching.

As a swordsman practises daily to increase their agility and dexterity with the sword, we should always sharpen our knowledge of the Word so that we are prepared to take it up for battle against the fiery darts that are certain to come our way.
