0222-Are You a Secure Person in Your Workplace

Our workplace is one of the most challenging and highly competitive environments to be in. There will always be people who are younger and/or more capable/qualified than us. We also might be persecuted for our beliefs in our workplace. If we feel threatened, our paper qualifications and prior experiences for the current position will not help us.Daniel in the Old Testament was a very secure person. He was one of three governors appointed by King Darius. When one of the three was about to be appointed to oversee the whole kingdom, Daniel’s competitors felt insecure and decided to plot against him Daniel 6:1-10. This led to Daniel being thrown into a lions’ den, but he survived unscathed. Additionally, when the King wanted to destroy the wise men of Babylon, Daniel wasn’t afraid of any competition from the wise men and he chose to protect them instead.

Daniel 2:24 Therefore Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon. He went and said thus to him: “Do not destroy the wise men of Babylon; take me before the king, and I will tell the king the interpretation.”

Daniel was a secure person because his faith and confidence were in the Lord.

How do insecure people generally act in the workplace? They are more concerned about what people think of them because their identities lie in their name cards and their hierarchy in society. They will not employ someone better than them, find ways to remove their competitors or make others look bad so that they look good in front of their bosses. They also fear rejection, are boastful and seek affirmation/praise from others.

How should we feel in our workplace especially during difficult times? If we have already prayed the prayer of consecration for our work (i.e. “if it is Your will, show me Your will to leave/stay with the company”) and God asks us to stay, then we have to feel secure in our workplace. Even if we are removed from our current position and made to start all over, we know God is able to help us. What matters most is God’s opinion of us, not others.

Ephesians 1:6 To the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

We are blessed with all the spiritual blessings in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus Ephesians 1:3. We are hidden in Christ, therefore we are seen as righteous, holy and blameless by God. We have been redeemed, washed and forgiven by Jesus’ blood. We are children of the living God. We have peace with God. This is the only form of security that allows us to experience His peace and grace during times of persecution, trials and tribulations, knowing who we are in Christ. We will not act like insecure people because our faith and confidence lie in the Lord.

Sermon Series: The Daniels of Today (Part 2)
