Laying the Foundation

Hebrews 6:1-3 (NKJV)

Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits.

CG Discussion Points

  1. How many Christian baptisms are mentioned in the Bible? Discuss their respective significance in connection to the work of the Holy Spirit. (Hebrews 6:1-3; Matthew 28:19; Acts 1:4-5,8)
  2. In what ways can the baptism of the Holy Spirit be received and how is it manifested? What attitude should we adopt before receiving the gift? (Acts 10:44-46; Acts 11:15-17; Acts 19:1-2,6; Luke 11:13; John 7:38)
  3. How can we serve others after being baptized with the Holy Spirit? Mention some beneficial aspects. (Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:7; 1 Corinthians 2:4; 2 Timothy 1:6)
  4. Why are we encouraged in the Scripture to pray in the spirit and not just in the understanding? (1 Corinthians 14:2,15,39; 1 Corinthians 14:14)
